Coastal landscapes are near the sea or the ocean.

The most important elements we can find in the coastal landscapes are:


  • Archipelago: it´s a group of islands. The Canary Island form an archipelago.

  • Bay: where the water cuts into the land.

BAYS ARE FORMED WHEN WATER CUTS INTO LAND


  • Beach: it´s an area of sand or pebbles (small stones) next to the sea.

BEACHES ARE FLAT AND MADE OUT OF SAND OR PEBBLES (LITTLE STONES)


  • Cliff: it´s the steep side of a high land. Normally, it´s made of rocks.

CLIFFS ARE VERY STEEP AND MADE OUT OF ROCKS


  • Peninsula: it´s a piece of land surrounded by water on three sides but connected to mainland. Spain and Portugal form a peninsula.

PENINSULAS ARE SURROUNDED BY WATER EXCEPT IN ONE PART


  • Island: it´s a piece of land surrounded completely by water. Australia is an island.
